Rv 4:8
The and the four living creatures, each one by one[a] of them having six[b] wings apiece,[c]—around and within they are full of eyes[d,e] around and within. They —and day and night they do not have no rest day and night, saying, “Holy, holy, holy (is) the Lord God, the Almighty,[f] who was and who is and who is to come coming!”[g]
———
a Gk. ἓν καθ’ ἓν. Jn 8:9: εἷς καθ’ εἷς.
b Cf. Is. 6:1-2: 6:1 In the year of King Uzziah’s death, I saw the sovereign master seated on a high, elevated throne. The hem of his robe filled the temple. 6:2 Seraphs stood over him; each one had six wings. With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and they used the remaining two to fly (NET).
c Gk. ἀνά. See BDAG s.v. ἀνά 3.
d It's not clear here whether the creatures or the wings are full of eyes, since Rv. 4:6 already says the creatures are full of eyes. Can γέμουσιν (ind. 3 pl. or neu. dat. ptcp.) be construed such that it is the wings? See next note where, in Ezekiel, the rims on the wheels rather than the creatures are full of eyes. Γεμούσας (fem. acc. ptcp.), however, would have been preferable to mean the wings (cf. Rv. 5:8, 15:7).
e Cf. Ez. 1:15-18: 1:15 Then I looked, and I saw one wheel on the ground beside each of the four beings.... 1:18 Their rims were high and awesome, and the rims of all four wheels were full of eyes all around [LXX: πλήρεις ὀφθαλμῶν κυκλόθεν ] (NET). Also Ez. 10:12: ...The wheels of the four of them were full of eyes all around [LXX: πλήρεις ὀφθαλμῶν κυκλόθεν] (NET).
f Is. 6:3: They called out to one another, Holy, holy, holy is the Lord who commands armies! [LXX: ἅγιος ἅγιος ἅγιος κύριος σαβαωθ] His majestic splendor fills the entire earth! (NET).
g Rv. 1:4, 8; 11:17.
