Rom 7:6
But now we have been discharged from are no longer under the law, having died upon dying to that in which what we were held in the grip of; so that we serve in a newness of (the) spirit,[a] and not (in) an oldness of (the) letter written law.[b]
———
a A renewed outlook or mindset. The law made us aware of sin, it condemned sin, and yet we continue to sin. So under the "oldness of the letter" (the old way of thinking under the law) we live under the weight of knowing that we are hopelessly condemned; but having now had that condemnation commuted we have reason to do good.
b Or, oldness of the letter (of the law)? Gk. παλαιότητι γράμματος, lit., oldness of the letter.
