πετρ·ος
(mas) nom sg
Peter "Peter" in English. Greek translation of the Aramaic Κηφᾶς; both mean "rock" or "stone". Πέτρος is not a normal proper name, but more of a "nickname" which Jesus gave to Simon Son of John. cf. Jn 1:42
.
Jn 1:42
He brought him to Jesus. Jesus looked at him, and said,
“You are Simon the son of Jonah. You shall be called Cephas”
(which is by interpretation, Peter).
