a Gk. βασιλικόν κατὰ τὴν γραφήν, lit., royal according to the scripture, royal law doesn't make sense, so perhaps royal signifies eminence but not preeminence; i.e., the second in greatness (see Mt. 22:36-39 and Mk. 12:28-31) only to the first and greatest commandment, which is to love the lord your God with all your heart, mind, and soul (ἐντολὴ πρώτη πάντων [Mk. 12:28] and ἐντολὴ μεγάλη ἐν τῷ νόμῳ [Mt. 22:36]).
