Acts 2:5
Now there were dwelling living in Jerusalem Jews, devout men, from every nation under the sky,[a] heedful[b] men.
———
a See 1:9-11.
b Gr. εὐλαβής. Usually translated devout. However, their devoutness seems irrelevant to the story. Other usages of the word suggest prudence in reaction to signs and warnings. See Simeon (Lk 2:25); the commanding officer and Paul (Acts 23:10); and Noah (Heb 11:7). Here, these are men reacting to the great noise out of the sky.
