Acts 18:13
saying, “This man persuades induces men to worship God contrary to outside the law.”[a]
———
a Gr. παρὰ τὸν νόμον (beside the law). Παρά has a sense of not having been permitted rather than of having been prohibited. Prohibited (i.e., contrary to the law) would be κατὰ τὸν νόμον (see, for example, Acts 23:3). To wit, they reject Paul's interpretation of the scriptures as beyond the bounds of orthodoxy.
