2Jn 1:9
Whoever
Everyone

walking away,
[a]
and doesn’t
not continuing[b] in Christ's teaching,
remain in the teaching of Christ,
doesn’t have God.
Abiding
He who

the teaching,

the same has both
the Father and the Son.
———
a
RP:
παραβαίνω
, to walk away. NA/UBS:
προάγω
, to precede (here, to move on? BDAG s.v.
προάγω
2, 2J 9:
anyone who goes too far...
). Whether leaving (backsliding) or getting ahead of Christ's teaching (prematurity, especially in so-called church leaders building THEIR 'ministries'), the results are similar: dead works of the flesh, not by the Spirit; the Father's development of the Son in an individual is an incremental, line upon line, precept upon precept process that takes time -- it's gradual.
b
continuing in Christ's teaching involves treasuring it up, not letting it go in one ear and out the other.
c
lit. continuing in Christ's teaching -- actively, not merely tolerating, awaiting, or relying on others (e.g. church leaders); this brings true spiritual development, growth by the Spirit through the Word's watering.
