a
επαγγελλομαι is more accurately "making full an announcement". This can be roughly translated as a "promise" (of things that are, or are certain) or, in this particular case, fully expressing what has been announced. Hence, "professing" or "expressing" piety (in themselves) may be more appropiate, especially since it is middle voice.
