1Thes 5:9
For God didn’t appoint us to wrath,[a] but to the obtaining of salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,
———
a Is wrath here just the oblivion of death? They are awaiting Jesus' deliverance from the coming wrath (1:10) and the concern of 4:13-18 seems to be that those who die before Jesus' coming will have missed that deliverance or salvation and so not escape wrath.
b περιποιησιν σωτηριας δια τοθ κυριου ημων Ιησου Χριστου Noteworthy: Paul is talking to believers v 4&5, he is NOT saying God appointed them to believe but rather that believers are appointed to περιποιησιν σωτηριας (obtaing of salvation/ possession of salvation) δια THROUGH our Lord Jesus Christ! This is a very importanr distinction consistent with Eph 1:4... God is appointing THAT obtaining salvation is THROUGH Jesus.. He is not appointing those who would become BELIEVERS but that the possession of salvation is THROUGH Jesus. see Mal 3:17
