Dt. 34:3; Jgs. 1:16, 3:13; and 2 Chr. 28:15 make reference to ἡ πόλις τῶν φοινίκων. Is ὁ Φοινικών, therefore, just a short form of ἡ πόλις τῶν φοινίκων [by which the genitive of φοῖνιξ[1] is turned into a nominative], which becomes τοῦ Φοινικῶνος for τῆς πόλεως τῶν φοινίκων?
