Acts 7:5

Whereas a promise in English doesn't preclude immediacy, ἐπαγγέλλομαι in Acts 7:5's recounting of God's promise of the land of Canaan to Abraham seems to mean a promise that is implicitly not immediate. (Does this hold true in all cases of ἐπαγγέλλομαι and ἐπαγγελία? Or, alternatively, is the not yet part of the promise in Acts 7:5 instead implicit, not in ἐπαγγέλλομαι, but in manner in which the land is promised to be given—ἐπηγγείλατο δοῦναι αὐτῷ είς κατάσχεσιν—that is, by seizure? The point of Acts 7:5 is that the promise itself was a promise of descendants to childless Abraham.)
