Is the word σκύβαλον vulgar, i.e., equivalent to s**t? Peter Leithart (http://www.firstthings.com/blogs/leithart/2007/03/12/skubalon/): It is, in fact, most common in the literature of Greek medicine.... Most of the medical instances are quite tedious discussions of the digestive tract. The word is not found in comedy, mime, or other genres where one would expect vulgarity.
