The sense of this word seems to be one who leads or shows the way.

Prince [of life] in Acts 3:15 (ἀρχηγὸν τῆς ζωῆς...ὃν ὁ θεὸς ἤγειρεν ἐκ νεκρῶν) and author [of faith] in Heb 12:2 (τὸν τῆς πίστεως ἀρχηγὸν καὶ τελειωτὴν Ἰησοῦν)seem less fitting.

One who begins someth. that is first in a series..., instigator (BDAG s.v. ἀρχηγός 2).
