No real distinction betw. act. and mid.: the distinc. betw. act. [ask outright] and mid. [ask as a loan] found by ancient grammarians has only very limited validity for our lit...; cp. Js 4:2f, when they seem to be used interchangeably (BDAG s.v. αἰτέω).
To ask someone:
Give to him who asks you.... [Matthew 5:42 WEB]
