The sense of this word seems to be one who leads or shows the way.

Prince [of life] in Acts 3:15 (αρχηγον της ζωης...ον ο θεος ηγειρεν εκ νεκρων) and author [of faith] in Heb 12:2 (τον της πιστεως αρχηγον και τελειωτην Ιησουν)seem less fitting.

One who begins someth. that is first in a series..., instigator (BDAG s.v. αρχηγος 2).
